7 short lessons, at your own pace
Every lesson ends with one gentle “what would you do?” question — no scores, no time limits, no pass marks. Here’s what you’ll cover:
- The home screen, without fear. Here’s the most important thing in this whole course: you cannot easily break your phone by tapping things .
- A few settings that change everything. A handful of settings make your phone dramatically nicer to use — and the best one takes two minutes: make the text bigger .
- Apps and the Google Play Store, safely. Apps come from the Google Play Store — the official app shop that comes on Android phones (its icon is a colourful play-button triangle).
- Photos: taking, finding, keeping. Your phone’s camera is probably the best camera you’ve ever owned.
- Keeping your phone healthy. Updates are free, and they protect you.
- Phone scams and staying safe. Calls from unknown numbers: you never have to answer.
- When to ask for help (and why it’s smart). Everyone gets stuck — everyone.

Frequently asked
Is the course really free?
Completely free — no catch, and nothing to sign up for. We’re a family IT firm in Bournemouth, and courses like this are our way of helping local people feel confident with technology. If you ever want more help, you know where we are.
Which phones does it cover?
Any Android phone — Samsung, Google, Motorola and others. Menus and wording differ a little between makers, so we teach by what buttons do rather than exact taps. If you have an iPhone, Apple offers similar features, but this course is written for Android.
Could I break my phone by practising?
It’s very hard to break anything by tapping and exploring — that’s lesson one! The Home button (or swipe) always takes you back to the start, and nothing in this course asks you to do anything risky.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes — when you finish, type your first name and print your 365 Techies certificate of completion. It’s our own friendly certificate — not an accredited or formal qualification — and plenty of people pop it on the fridge.
Do I have to finish it in one sitting?
Not at all — go entirely at your own pace. Your progress is saved on your device, so you can close the page and pick up exactly where you left off, cup of tea in hand, another day.
