Cisco Aironet: what “end of support” actually costs you
My Cisco access points still work. Cisco says end of support. What have I actually lost? The dates, the milestones, and the honest answer.

Every date on this page comes from the vendor’s own published notices, linked in the source column, and was checked on 27 July 2026. Where we could not verify something from a vendor source we say “check with vendor” rather than guess.
Cisco Aironet: the dates, and the seven milestones
Cisco publishes more lifecycle milestones than anyone else, and the gaps between them matter. An access point can be past End of Software Maintenance — no more bug fixes — while still receiving security patches for years. Then that stops too. Those are two different risk positions and they deserve two different decisions.

What you have actually lost
The Aironet 1700, 2700 and 3700 all passed their last date of support on 30 April 2024. In practice that means three things, in rising order of seriousness:
If your Cisco access points have stopped joining the controller rather than simply ageing, stop reading this page and check the certificate date first — that is a completely different problem with a completely different fix.

Vendor headline figures are theoretical PHY rates. Real throughput per client, on a shared access point, is a fraction of them — Cisco’s own datasheets use the word “theoretical”.
