Custom dashboards for your Victron VRM system
Your Victron system, your dashboard, your way — any layout, any KPI, several installations on one live screen, hosted on the web so you can view it anywhere in the world. Designed, built and supported for you by the family firm that runs its own van on one — and a Victron Recommended Software Integrator. Scroll down: the demo on this page is live. Rated 4.9 on Google.
Rated 4.9 on GoogleFamily-run since 1995 · real people, no call centre/01 — LIVE DEMO · REAL DATA
This is live, right now, from our own van
Below is the 365 Crafter — our own off-grid support van — streamed live over Victron’s MQTT feed — the same per-second stream the official apps use — with history and totals from the official VRM API, exactly the architecture we’d use for yours. Same van, two completely different dashboards: here it’s a clean business view; on our off-grid page the identical data drives a car-style instrument cluster with a live grid-savings comparison — every solar watt valued against what the same power would cost on grid electricity. As far as we know, that’s a first for a Victron off-grid system. That’s the point — your dashboard, your way.
/02 — HONEST COMPARISON
VRM is excellent. Here’s what custom adds.
Let’s be straight: Victron’s VRM portal is polished, free, and keeps getting better — live data every couple of seconds while you’re watching, a rearrangeable Advanced tab with a custom widget builder, alarms to your phone, even remote control of your system. A custom dashboard doesn’t replace VRM — it sits alongside it (read-only, via Victron’s own API) and does the things VRM deliberately doesn’t.
| Feature | VRM portal (free) | Our custom dashboards |
|---|---|---|
| Main dashboard layout | Auto-generated and fixed — only the Advanced tab is rearrangeable | Anything, anywhere — your layout, your numbers, your look |
| Several installations on one live screen | A sortable site list; group overviews; Fleet dashboard needs 10+ sites | Any number of sites, one screen, live — from 2 vans to a whole estate |
| Data beyond Victron kit | Only what reaches the GX device | Most systems with an API or feed — weather, other-brand kit, tanks, business data |
| Your branding | Not available — the long-requested white-label feature never shipped | Fully yours — your logo, your colours, your customers see you |
| Sharing & wall screens | Read-only links and an embed — but not realtime (they update at the logging interval, typically 15 minutes); no kiosk mode | A live web page — view anywhere, share with anyone, run it fullscreen on a TV in reception |
| Money & custom KPIs | Tariff-aware figures only via Dynamic ESS (grid-tied, supported markets) | Any KPI at your tariff — the savings maths on our own van dashboard is exactly this |
| Cost | Free with your Victron system | Designed, built, hosted and supported for you — free demo, fixed quote |
Prefer DIY? Victron’s open tools (Grafana stacks, Node-RED on Venus OS Large, Home Assistant) can do a lot of this — free, if you’re happy self-hosting, maintaining a database and building the screens yourself. Our service is for people who’d rather it was simply done, hosted and supported.
/03 — ONE SCREEN · EVERY SITE
Several installations. One live screen.
VRM shows you one installation at a time (its fleet tools are a sortable list, and the Fleet dashboard needs ten or more sites). A custom dashboard puts every site you care about on one screen — live. Below, only the van is real; the other five are clearly-marked demo sites so you can see what your fleet would look like.
Your version could show any mix of sites, countries and hardware — with alerts, totals and whatever numbers matter to you on top.
// WHAT WE’RE RECOGNISED FOR
Our Victron specialisations
The same skills and sectors listed on our Victron Recommended Software Integrator profile — so you know exactly what we build on, and who we build it for.
// SOFTWARE WE BUILD ON
- Victron VRM API — custom dashboards on Victron’s official VRM API: any KPI, any layout, several sites on one live screen.
- MQTT — live, per-second data straight from the Cerbo GX for genuinely real-time views, not the 15-minute logging interval.
- Grafana — polished Grafana dashboards when that’s the toolset you’d rather have.
// SECTORS WE BUILD FOR
- Professional & recreational vehicles — motorhome, campervan & hire-fleet monitoring.
- Professional & leisure marine — boat and charter-fleet power monitoring, anywhere in the world.
- Off-grid & backup — off-grid sites, holiday lets, glamping and backup / ESS systems.
// HOW IT WORKS
Built on Victron’s open ecosystem — never replacing it
Your VRM stays the system of record; we add the layer that makes the data make sense — the same way we built our own van’s live dashboard.
01 · Read your VRM, safely
A small server-side proxy reads Victron’s official read-only VRM API — your login never touches the browser, and nothing can be changed from the dashboard.
02 · Genuinely real-time
A minimal MQTT client over TLS streams live, per-second data to the screen — well beyond VRM’s roughly 15-minute logging interval.
03 · Show what matters
A live grid-savings meter, a battery passport, a self-calibrating 7-day solar forecast, several sites on one screen, Grafana panels — hosted by us or on your own subdomain.
/04 — ANYTHING YOU LIKE
Monitor everything that matters — on one page
A custom dashboard isn’t a fixed product — it’s a page we design around your operation. Everything on our own van dashboard is an example you can see working today: live solar flow, battery state, tank levels, a £-savings meter at our real tariff, engine-charging hours, even a 7-day solar forecast calibrated to the van’s own history.
Yours might add site totals, alerts when a battery runs low, a generator-run log, this week vs last week, occupancy, temperatures — whatever information actually helps you decide things. That’s the “information efficiency” win: one glance instead of six logins.
- Any Victron data VRM has — live
- Several installations on one screen
- Your KPIs at your tariff (£, kWh, %)
- Alerts & low-battery warnings
- Tanks, temperatures & sensors
- Weather & solar forecasts
- Runs fullscreen on a TV or kiosk
- Phone, tablet & desktop layouts
/05 — IDEAS BY INDUSTRY
Who puts these on a wall?
Holiday parks & glamping
Every pod’s battery, water and power on one screen in the office — know before a guest calls.
Marine & hire fleets
Each boat’s state of charge and shore-power status at a glance, before the weekend rush.
Farms & rural estates
Barns, borehole pumps, electric fencing and off-grid cabins — one page for the whole holding.
Installers & system builders
Offer your customers a branded dashboard as part of the job — we build it, you deliver it.
Expat & remote homes
Check the villa’s solar, batteries and water from the UK — or anywhere — on your phone.
Remote & telemetry sites
We’ve remotely supported a river-crossing wireless monitoring link for the Environment Agency since 2015 — unattended sites are home ground.
/06 — FOR VICTRON INSTALLERS
Installers: give your customers a dashboard VRM can’t
You fit brilliant systems — then hand customers the same VRM portal as everyone else. There’s no white-label VRM (the long-requested “Dealer ID” branding feature never shipped), and the Fleet dashboard only unlocks at ten-plus sites.
We build the dashboard layer for you: your branding, your customer’s layout, hosted and supported by us, or set up on a subdomain of your own website — you stay the installer and the hero. It’s a clean add-on to quote on every job, and a reason customers pick you over the next quote. And we’re a Victron Recommended Software Integrator — listed in Victron’s own network of vetted integrators, building on the official VRM API.
We’re happy working behind the scenes or alongside you — talk to us about a partner arrangement.
- Your branding, not ours
- Works from 1 site up — no 10-site minimum
- Built on Victron’s official VRM API
- Read-only — never touches your config
- Hosted by us — or on your own subdomain
- You own the customer relationship
/07 — ON YOUR OWN WEBSITE
Your brand, your domain — your dashboard can live on your own website
Everywhere else on this page we say the same thing: we build it, we host it, we look after it, and you get a link. That stays the default, and for most owners it’s the easy answer. But if you run a business — an installer, a hire fleet, a marina, a holiday site — there’s a second route worth knowing about: your dashboard can live on your own website, ideally on a fresh subdomain such as monitor.yourcompany.co.uk or dash.yourcompany.co.uk, linked straight into your main site’s navigation.
Your part is three small jobs, none of them technical heroics. One: create a VRM access token in your own VRM account — a two-minute job, and we send a plain-English walkthrough. We recommend creating it under a ‘monitor only’ VRM user (which VRM genuinely supports, per site), so the token can only ever read data. Two: add the subdomain in your hosting control panel — one click in cPanel, Site Tools, Plesk and the like. Three: give us FTP or SFTP access scoped to just that subdomain’s folder. We do everything else — design, build and deployment.
Why bother? Because the ownership sums change:
- Your address, end to end. Customers click from your menu to monitor.yourcompany.co.uk and back without ever leaving your domain — the same your-brand-only finish as our white-label monitoring, on hosting you already pay for.
- The token is yours and stays server-side. It sits in one server-side file the dashboard reads; it never appears in the page code and is never visible to visitors — and you can revoke it in VRM whenever you like.
- Our access is fenced in. The FTP or SFTP login only reaches the new subdomain’s folder — we never need, and never ask for, the rest of your site. Revoke that too, any time.
- Room to grow. Extra pages, extra dashboards and extra features can be added there over time as your needs change.
- Long-term ownership. The dashboard sits on your hosting, at your domain — if our arrangement ever ended, the files would still be sitting on your server.
One honest requirement: the dashboard needs a small server-side relay to keep that token out of the page — a small PHP file, which nearly all ordinary shared hosting runs as standard. If yours can’t, nothing is lost: we simply host it for you instead, exactly as described above.
And this isn’t theory — it’s how we run our own. The live 365 Crafter van dashboards further up this page work on precisely this architecture: a static page, one server-side file holding a read-only token, and a small relay. If all you want is a simple widget on an existing page, our guide to embedding VRM on your website may be enough; if you want the full custom dashboard under your own roof, this is the route. Tell us which way you lean when you book a free demo — either answer is fine by us.
- Your brand & domain, end to end
- Read-only token in one server-side file
- FTP scoped to one subdomain folder only
- Revoke token or our access at any time
- Extra pages & dashboards added over time
- Same architecture as our own live dashboards
/08 — WORLDWIDE · EXPATS
Off-grid in Spain, Portugal, France — supported in plain English
English-speaking expats run Victron systems on villas, fincas, quintas and smallholdings across Europe — often a long way from the installer who fitted them. Because a custom dashboard is hosted on the web and built on the VRM cloud API, where you are doesn’t matter: we design, build and support it remotely, from the UK, in plain English.
Check the batteries from the airport. Show a house-sitter one simple page. Get an alert before the freezer becomes a problem. And when you want changes, you deal with a real, family-run UK firm (est. 1995, rated 4.9 on Google) — not a forum thread.
We work UK office hours (Mon–Fri 9–5 UK time) and support customers by email, remote session and scheduled calls worldwide.
- Anywhere with an internet connection
- Nothing extra to install on site
- Plain-English design & handover
- Remote support via secure sessions
- UK firm, since 1995, 4.9 on Google
- EU, worldwide — wherever you are
/09 — BEYOND VICTRON
Not just Victron — if it has a feed, we can usually dash it
Victron’s VRM API is where we started (our own van runs on it), but the same approach works for most systems that expose an API, a data feed or an export: other solar and battery brands, weather stations, tank and level sensors, heating, EV chargers, network kit — even business numbers like bookings or sales alongside your energy data.
One screen, many sources — that’s usually where dashboards earn their keep. Tell us what you run and we’ll tell you honestly what’s feasible before any money changes hands. This pairs naturally with the custom software and AI systems we build.
- Other solar & battery brands with APIs
- Weather stations & sensors
- Tanks, pumps & level monitors
- Network & connectivity status
- Business data alongside energy
- Honest feasibility check first
/10 — GPS & ROUTE TRACKING
Moving system? Put it on a live map — and keep every route
If your Victron system moves, it can carry GPS — a third-party USB receiver on the Cerbo GX (around £18 from UK retailers at the time of writing), the GX LTE 4G with its optional GPS antenna, or a boat’s existing NMEA 2000 GPS fed in over VE.Can. Credit where it’s due: once a fix is flowing, Victron’s own VRM portal already gives you a map of all your installations, a drawable geofence that alarms on exit and on signal loss, and a downloadable position history — those are Victron’s features, and they’re good.
What we add is the layer that makes it yours:
- A live moving map, on your branded dashboard. Position streams in over the same feed that drives the live demos above — near-live, typically updating every second or two on the move.
- Route history that stays yours. VRM keeps its detailed data for at least six months, not forever; our dashboards archive every track themselves, so your routes never expire.
- Blackspots that heal. The GX buffers its logs on board and uploads them when the connection returns — a signal gap pauses the live pin, never the route.
- One van or a whole fleet. The same build tracks a single camper, a boat, or every vehicle in a hire fleet on one map.
And one honest sentence for anyone thinking ‘theft tracker’: it isn’t one — it runs off the very battery bank it monitors, isn’t concealed and isn’t insurer-recognised, so a dedicated tracker still owns that job, with VRM’s geofence and signal-loss alarm the honest next-best thing. For the hardware choices, the gotchas and the limits, read the full GPS tracking guide — or book a free demo and we’ll talk it through.
- GPS hardware from around £18 at retail
- Live moving map on your branded dashboard
- Route history archived beyond VRM’s detail window
- Geofence and signal-loss alarms built into VRM
- Signal blackspots backfill — routes stay complete
- Works for vans, boats and hire fleets

// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
Why does my Victron VRM dashboard only update every 15 minutes?
Because VRM’s stored data updates at your GX device’s logging interval — 15 minutes by default (you can shorten it in the device settings, at the cost of more data use). That’s ideal for history and diagnostics, but it’s why an embedded VRM view never feels live. Genuinely per-second dashboards — like the van demos on this page — come from Victron’s MQTT stream, the same live feed the official apps use, which is exactly what our custom dashboards read alongside the official API.
Can you customise the Victron VRM dashboard?
Not the VRM portal itself — Victron’s Advanced Dashboard offers configurable widgets, but the portal’s layout, branding and structure are fixed. What we build instead is a custom dashboard alongside VRM: your layout, your branding, your KPIs, reading the same live data through Victron’s official interfaces. VRM stays untouched as the system of record.
Is there any way to customise the VRM portal?
Within VRM you can rearrange the Advanced Dashboard’s widgets and choose which values show — and for many owners that’s enough. When people ask this, they usually want their own branding, a single screen for several sites, financial KPIs, or a customer-facing view — none of which VRM is designed to do. That’s exactly the gap our custom dashboards fill, without replacing VRM.
Does this replace the VRM portal?
No — and it shouldn’t. VRM stays your system of record, with its alarms, history and remote console. Your custom dashboard reads the same data through Victron’s official API and presents it your way, alongside VRM.
Do I need any new hardware?
Usually not. If your system already reports to VRM (via a GX device such as a Cerbo GX), we can build from that today using a read-only API token. No site visit needed — anywhere in the world.
Is it safe? Can a dashboard change my system?
We build with a read-only VRM access token, kept server-side — the dashboard can display your system but never control or change it. Optional password protection on the page itself if you want it private.
Can you put several installations on one screen?
Yes — it’s one of the things a custom dashboard does best. Any number of sites, mixed hardware, one live page; VRM’s own multi-site tools are a list view and a fleet dashboard that needs ten or more sites.
Can you include non-Victron equipment?
Usually, yes — most modern kit exposes an API or feed we can read (other solar brands, sensors, weather, business data). Tell us what you run and we’ll confirm feasibility honestly before you commit.
Can the dashboard live on my own website?
Yes. We host by default, but if you’d rather have it at your own address — say monitor.yourcompany.co.uk — you create a read-only VRM access token (two minutes; we send a plain-English walkthrough), add the subdomain in your hosting panel, and give us FTP or SFTP access to just that folder. The token sits in one server-side file, never appears in the page code, and you can revoke it — or our access — whenever you like. Your host just needs to run a small PHP relay, which nearly all ordinary shared hosting supports; if yours can’t, we simply host it for you instead. It’s the same architecture our own live van dashboards on this page run on.
What does a custom dashboard cost?
Every dashboard is different, so we don’t publish a one-size price — you get a free demo and a fixed written quote up front, including hosting and support, before any work starts.
Where do you cover?
Worldwide. The service is remote by design — we’ve built and supported ours from Dorset, England, and yours works the same wherever the system lives. We work UK office hours and schedule calls to suit your time zone.
