Data migration is the careful business of getting everything you care about from one place to another — old laptop to new, a dying hard drive to a healthy one, an external disk into OneDrive, or one Microsoft 365 mailbox into another — without losing a single file along the way. Frequently asked
Will I lose anything during the migration?
That's the whole point of doing it carefully — no. We take stock of what exists before we start, copy everything across, then check the result against the original together so you can see nothing's missing. We don't wipe or retire the old device until you've confirmed you're happy. If a drive is already failing we can't always guarantee 100% of a dying disk, but we get the most important data off first and are honest with you about what we find.
My old computer is broken or won't start — can you still get my data?
Often, yes. If the computer won't boot but the hard drive itself is intact, we can usually connect the drive separately and pull your files off it. If the drive itself is the problem, the sooner you stop using it the better — every extra power-on risks more damage. Bring it in or book a visit and we'll assess it honestly before doing anything.
How long does a data migration take?
It depends on how much data you have and how it's stored. A typical home computer with documents, photos and email can often be done in a single session; large photo libraries, slow external drives or business mailboxes take longer. We'll give you a realistic estimate once we've seen what's involved — no surprises.
Do you migrate email and Microsoft 365 mailboxes too?
Yes. We move email, contacts and calendars between accounts and into Microsoft 365, keeping your old folders and history intact. For larger or business mailbox moves, our Microsoft 365 support page covers the wider setup — we'll point you to the right plan rather than guess at a price here.
What does data migration cost?
Most migrations are quoted per job once we know what's involved, and for our monthly support customers this kind of help is often included in your plan. We don't publish a one-size price because moving a single laptop and migrating a business's email and files are very different jobs.
