Three Real Reasons It’s Time to Move On

We’re not in the business of scaring people into buying computers. These are the three plain facts about a 9020 in 2026:

• The original hard drive is living on borrowed time. Most 9020s shipped with a mechanical hard drive that’s now been spinning for over a decade. Mechanical drives wear out, and when they fail they often take your photos and documents with them. If yours has never been replaced, that’s a genuine data-loss risk today, not someday.
• The RAM was fine for 2013, not for 2026. The memory amounts these machines typically came with struggle with a modern web browser alone — a handful of tabs, a video call and an email client will bring one to its knees.
• The big one: it cannot run Windows 11. Windows 11 requires an 8th-generation Intel processor or newer plus TPM 2.0. The 9020’s 4th-generation chips fall well short. And Windows 10 support ended on 14 October 2025 — no more security updates. Every month a 9020 stays online, the risk of unpatched flaws being exploited grows.

Any one of these would be worth a conversation. All three together is why we say, warmly but honestly: it’s time.

Not every 9020 needs replacing, and we’ll tell you which is which before you spend a penny. Our upgrade services are available on request, and the first step is always honest triage:

• Offline or light-use machine? If your 9020 runs a till, a workshop tool or a hobby setup that never touches the internet, a new SSD (and sometimes a little more RAM) can genuinely make sense. We’ll say so, fit it, and send you on your way.
• Your everyday, online computer? Then the kindest thing we can tell you is that no upgrade fixes the Windows 11 problem. The processor is the ceiling, and money spent on parts is money not spent on the replacement.
