OptiPlex Micro — tiny, quiet, monitor-mountable
The OptiPlex Micro is the smallest of the family — roughly a litre in size, small enough to strap to the back of a monitor with a VESA bracket or tuck out of sight on a shelf. It runs from an external power brick, like a laptop, and is close to silent in use.
Buy the Micro when:
- Desk space is tight — reception counters, hot-desks, meeting rooms, kiosks, wall-mounted signage.
- Noise matters — consulting rooms, studios, quiet offices.
- The job is everyday work: email, Microsoft 365, web apps, accounts and browsing.
Its limits: the Micro typically uses laptop-style memory and has room for a fast M.2 SSD (sometimes one small extra drive), but there are no internal expansion slots — so you cannot add a dedicated graphics card, capture card or extra internal drives. If that might ever matter, size up to the SFF. Either way we can fit a larger SSD to keep it quick for years.

OptiPlex SFF — the office sweet spot
The small form factor OptiPlex is the one we sell most, and for good reason: it’s the sensible middle. It’s a slim desktop that stands upright beside a monitor or lies flat under one, tucks under a desk, and has a proper internal power supply — no wall-wart needed.
Why it’s the sweet spot:
- Takes standard desktop memory, usually with room to add more.
- Room for a fast M.2 SSD plus an extra 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch drive.
- Has one or two low-profile (half-height) expansion slots, so it can take a small graphics card, extra ports or a capture card if you ever need one — something the Micro simply can’t.
- Still compact and quiet enough for any normal office.
