// EMBED VRM ON A WEBSITE
How to embed Victron VRM on your website
VRM’s built-in Share your site can drop a Victron dashboard into a web page for free — but it’s Victron-branded, read-only and refreshes every 15 minutes, not live. Here’s the honest how-to, its real limits, and the genuinely live alternative — running on this very site. Rated 4.9 on Google.

/01 — THE SHORT ANSWER
Yes — but know which route you need
Yes, you can put live-ish Victron data on any website. VRM has a free, official Share your site feature that generates a read-only iframe you paste into a page — but it is Victron-branded, read-only, and refreshes only at your logging interval (default 15 minutes), so it is not truly real-time. For a genuinely live, on-brand dashboard you can embed anywhere — and pull several sites onto one page — you need the official VRM API, which is the route we build, host and support for you.
Below is the honest how-to for the built-in embed first, its real limits second, and the live alternative — running on this very site — third. Whichever you land on, you’ll pick it with your eyes open.
/02 — THE OFFICIAL ROUTE
VRM’s built-in Share your site, honestly
The built-in feature is called Share your site, and for a simple read-only page it is genuinely good — free, official, and the viewer needs no VRM account. Sharing is disabled by default, so nothing is exposed until you deliberately switch it on.
In VRM you open your installation, open the Share menu in the left-hand sidebar and enable it. You then get a few choices:
- Private read-only URL — a link anyone can open to view your dashboard, no login required.
- Password protection — gate that link behind a password for a little privacy.
- Show on Victron World — list the site publicly on Victron’s own world map.
- Embed (iframe) — a snippet of HTML you paste into your own web page to show the dashboard inline.
The embed is the one most people want for a website. It is done per installation, so each system you want to show needs its own iframe. The step-by-step lower down walks through it exactly. It is a legitimate, no-cost way to get Victron data onto a page — just go in knowing the limits in the next section.
/03 — THE HONEST LIMITS
What the built-in embed can’t do
None of this makes VRM bad — it is excellent at what it is built for, which is monitoring your system inside VRM. The embed simply wasn’t designed to be a live, branded website widget, and it shows:
- It is not real-time. A shared page refreshes at your logging interval — the default is 15 minutes. Fine for a status glance; wrong if you want a live power figure ticking on screen.
- It is read-only and Victron-branded. You cannot restyle it to match your site or add your logo. The long-promised white-label “Dealer ID” feature never shipped — confirmed by Victron staff on their own community forum.
- One iframe = one installation. There is no built-in way to show several sites on a single embedded page; each needs its own iframe.
- Tokens are fragile. The embed token is invalidated the moment you toggle sharing off and on, which silently breaks a live page.
- Iframe breakage is common. Community threads are full of embeds that suddenly ask for a login or throw “embed token is invalid” — often down to third-party-cookie blocking, since VRM is a third party on your domain.
If those trade-offs are fine for you, use the built-in embed with a clear conscience. If they aren’t, read on.
/04 — SEE IT RUNNING LIVE
A dashboard that’s actually live — on this page
Rather than describe it, we run it. Our own off-grid support vehicle — the 365 Crafter, fitted with a Cerbo GX on Venus OS, MPPT solar and a lithium battery bank — streams live through the official VRM API on our custom VRM dashboards page.
You can see the same van rendered in two completely different dashboard styles, proving the data is decoupled from the presentation — something the fixed built-in layout can’t do. There is also a fleet-style demo; in the interest of honesty, only the van in it is a real, live system, and it is labelled as such — the rest is illustrative.
It is a working, public example of exactly what this page is about: real Victron data, on a web page, styled and branded, refreshing far more like “live” than a 15-minute iframe. Open it in another tab and watch it move.
/05 — THE LIVE ALTERNATIVE
A live, brandable embed via the VRM API
The route that removes every limit above is the official VRM API. Victron publishes it precisely so third parties can read your data programmatically, and it is what our service is built on. We pull the parameters you care about, then render them however you like.
What that unlocks:
- Your branding — colours, logo, layout, wording. It looks like your site, not a Victron panel.
- Embed anywhere — a single snippet drops into WordPress, Squarespace, Webflow, a bespoke CMS or a plain HTML page.
- A live feel — we refresh far more frequently than the 15-minute share interval, within the API’s fair-use limits.
- Many sites, one screen — a genuine multi-site or fleet view, a public showroom page, or an access-controlled client portal.
To be completely clear: we are an independent service and are listed in Victron Energy’s Recommended Software Integrator Program — though not a Victron dealer, distributor or reseller — Victron and VRM are their trademarks. Our dashboard builds on top of VRM via its official API; it does not replace it. VRM stays your source of truth and your control surface; we simply present the data on your website the way the built-in embed can’t.
/06 — WHICH ROUTE IS RIGHT
Built-in embed or a custom one?
Honest guidance, not a hard sell:
- Use the built-in embed if you want a quick, read-only tile on a personal or hobby page, a 15-minute refresh is fine, and Victron’s branding doesn’t bother you. It is free, it is official, and it is the right tool for that job.
- Choose a custom API dashboard if it is a client’s site, a public showroom, or a commercial page where branding, a live feel, multiple sites, or reliability matter — or if you want it on a TV or kiosk, or fully white-labelled under your own name.
Plenty of installers happily use the free embed for simple cases and commission a custom one only where it earns its keep — on the pages a customer or prospect actually judges them by. There is no wrong answer here; there is just the right tool for the specific page you are building. If you are not sure which you need, tell us the use case and we’ll say plainly whether the free route will do.
/07 — WHAT IT COSTS
What a custom embed costs
Custom dashboard work is quote-based — we don’t publish a price because no two embeds are the same, and we’d rather quote honestly than anchor you to a number that doesn’t fit. What moves the figure:
- How many sites and devices you want on the page, and how many parameters from each.
- How many dashboard styles or pages — a single embed versus a multi-view showroom or portal.
- Branding depth — a light theme versus a fully bespoke, pixel-matched design.
- Hosting — we host and maintain it for you, or deploy to your own server.
- Access control — fully public, password-gated, or a logged-in client area.
- Ongoing support — a one-off build versus a maintained, monitored service.
We are a family-run UK firm (Bournemouth) and deliver this worldwide, remotely; where response times matter, our support desk runs UK office hours, Mon–Fri 9–5 UK time. Tell us the use case and you’ll get a clear, no-obligation quote — get in touch or call +44 1202 775566.
/08 — ON YOUR OWN SUBDOMAIN
A full dashboard on your own subdomain
There’s a step beyond embedding a panel in an existing page: a complete live dashboard at your own web address — dash.yourcompany.co.uk, monitor.yourcompany.co.uk, whatever suits — sitting on your own hosting and linked to and from your main site navigation like any other page you own. Not an iframe inside a page, and not a link out to somebody else’s server: a genuinely live dashboard, your brand, your domain, end to end.
We build it and deploy it; your side of the job is deliberately small. First, you create a VRM access token in your own VRM account — a two-minute job, and we send a plain-English walkthrough. We recommend creating it under a separate ‘monitor only’ VRM user, which VRM genuinely supports per site, so the token can only ever read data. Second, you create the subdomain in your hosting control panel — one click in cPanel, Site Tools, Plesk and the like. Third, you give us FTP or SFTP access scoped to just that subdomain’s folder. We take it from there.
- Your address, your brand. Your customers never leave your domain, the dashboard links seamlessly to and from the rest of your site, and there’s no third-party badge on it unless you want one — the same thinking as our white-label monitoring, but on your own hosting.
- Your token, kept out of the page. The token is yours and sits in one server-side file the dashboard reads — it never appears in the page code and is never visible to visitors. Created under a monitor-only user, it can read your data but never change anything.
- Access that’s scoped, not sweeping. The FTP login only reaches the new subdomain’s folder; we never need, or ask for, access to the rest of your site. You can revoke the token or the login at any time — you stay in control throughout.
- Room to grow. Because it’s a proper site of its own rather than a widget in a page, we can add extra pages, features and dashboards there over time as your needs grow.
- Long-term ownership. The dashboard lives on your hosting, at your domain. It’s yours to keep.
One requirement worth knowing up front: the hosting needs to run a small server-side relay — a few lines of PHP, which nearly all ordinary shared hosting supports — so the token can stay server-side where it belongs. If your hosting can’t, no drama: we simply build, host and support the dashboard for you instead, and you get a link. Both routes are valid; this one is simply the natural choice for installers and operators who want the whole thing under their own name and address.
And it isn’t theory. Our own 365 Crafter van dashboards run on exactly this architecture — a static page, a small relay, and a read-only token in one server-side file. We’re proposing what we already run ourselves.

// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
How do I put a VRM dashboard on my website without exposing my token?
Never put a VRM access token in the page itself — anything in page code is readable by every visitor via view-source. The safe pattern is a small server-side relay: the token lives in one file on the server (blocked from direct web access), a few lines of PHP read VRM on the browser’s behalf, and the page only ever receives the numbers. Create the token under a read-only VRM user so it can never change anything, and revoke it whenever you like. It’s precisely how our own live van dashboards work.
Is the built-in VRM website embed real-time?
No. A shared VRM site or iframe refreshes at your logging interval, which defaults to 15 minutes, and it is read-only. That is fine for an at-a-glance status page, but if you want figures that visibly tick over — a live power or state-of-charge readout — you need the VRM API route, where we refresh far more frequently within the API’s fair-use limits.
Why does my VRM iframe keep asking for a login or breaking?
Two common causes. The embed token is invalidated whenever you toggle site sharing off and on, so a working page silently breaks. And because VRM is a third party on your domain, browsers that block third-party cookies can refuse the embed or force a login. The Victron community has many threads on exactly this — it is a known limitation of the iframe approach, not something you are doing wrong.
Can I show several Victron sites in one embed?
Not with the built-in feature — iframe sharing is per installation, so each system needs its own separate iframe. There is no single multi-site embedded view. A custom dashboard built on the VRM API can combine as many sites as you like on one page, which is why fleet views, showrooms and multi-site portals use the API route rather than stock sharing.
Can I remove Victron branding and match my own?
Not on the built-in embed — it is Victron-branded and can’t be restyled. The long-promised white-label “Dealer ID” feature never shipped, confirmed by Victron staff on their forum. A custom API dashboard is fully yours: your colours, logo, layout and wording. See our white-label monitoring page for how that works.
Is the built-in embed free? What does a custom one cost?
The built-in Share your site feature is free and official — use it whenever it fits. A custom, branded, live dashboard is a done-for-you service and is quote-based; the price depends on how many sites, parameters and styles you want, plus branding and hosting. We don’t invent prices — tell us the use case and we’ll quote honestly.
What do you need from me to build one?
Two things. First, a Victron GX device (Cerbo, Ekrano, Venus GX or similar) already logging your system to VRM — the API can only read what VRM has. Second, appropriate access to that VRM data — typically a VRM API access token you generate for read-only access, or a share arrangement we agree. We handle the rest: build, hosting and ongoing support.
Do you do this worldwide, or only in the UK?
Worldwide. The whole service is delivered remotely, so your location doesn’t matter — only that your system reports to VRM. We are a UK firm in Bournemouth; where response times come up, our support desk runs UK office hours, Monday to Friday, 9–5 UK time. Plenty of monitoring simply runs itself once it is live.
Does a custom dashboard replace VRM?
No, and it shouldn’t. VRM stays your source of truth, your alarms and your control surface — it is excellent at that. Our dashboard reads from VRM through the official API and presents the data on your website the way the built-in embed can’t. We are independent and not affiliated with or endorsed by Victron Energy; VRM and Victron are their trademarks.
How do I get a live dashboard on my own site?
Start by opening our live demo — the 365 Crafter van streaming in two styles — so you can see exactly what you would get. Then send us the use case (which sites, where it goes, how it should look) or call +44 1202 775566, and you’ll get a clear, no-obligation quote.
From there, you choose where it lives. We can build, host and support the dashboard for you and hand you a link — or deploy it to a subdomain of your own site, such as dash.yourcompany.co.uk: you create a VRM token in your own account and give us FTP access scoped to just that folder, and the dashboard runs at your own address under your own brand. Either way the work on your side is minimal, and you can switch routes later if your needs change.
