How much does IT support cost?
Our real prices first, then what moves the price, per user against per computer, VAT, and what to check before you sign anything.

Per computer or per person?
Most managed IT companies price per person (they say “per user”). We price per computer. If three people share two computers, you pay for two. If one person has a desktop and a laptop, per person can come out cheaper — ask us and we’ll work it out both ways for you.
Check whether the price includes VAT
Many IT companies show prices plus VAT. If your business is VAT registered you can claim that back, so compare prices before VAT. If you’re not VAT registered — plenty of sole traders, charities and small firms aren’t — the VAT is a real cost: £35 plus VAT is £42. Our prices have no VAT on top.
What affects the cost of IT support?
- Whether you’re a home user or a business, and how many devices and people you have.
- Whether you choose a monthly plan or pay per problem.
- The level of cover — from basic help to fully managed security, backups and Microsoft 365.
- Whether fixes are included in the monthly price, or charged on top.
- Whether support is remote (usually cheaper and faster) or on-site.
Watch for the costs that aren’t in the headline price
Ask what is not included: call-out fees, out-of-hours charges, project work such as new computers or an office move, Microsoft 365 licences, and long contracts that are hard to leave. We publish our prices, keep plans rolling month to month, and agree any extra cost with you before the work starts.
Before you ask anyone for a quote
Any IT company, us included, can quote faster and more fairly when you can answer five things. Jot them down first:
- How many devices? The computers, laptops, tablets and phones you would want covered.
- How many people? Just you, the family, or a team.
- What do you rely on most? Email, Microsoft 365, accounts software, a website.
- What do you spend on IT now? Roughly, per month or per year, on repairs, software and support.
- What is your biggest worry? Losing data, scams, slow computers, downtime.
Two more worth knowing: whether you have working, tested backups, and whether you are tied into a contract now and when it ends.
Monthly support or pay per fix?
Paying per problem feels cheaper until something goes wrong — then a single emergency repair can cost more than months of cover. Monthly support spreads the cost, catches problems early and includes maintenance, which usually works out cheaper and far less stressful overall.
// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
Are your prices plus VAT?
No. We’re not VAT registered, so the price you see is the price you pay.
Is monthly IT support worth it?
For most people, yes — it spreads the cost, includes regular maintenance and catches problems before they become expensive emergencies.
Do you charge call-out fees?
Most support is remote with no call-out fee. On-site visits across Dorset are arranged when hands-on help is needed.
Can I just pay when something breaks?
Yes — we offer one-off repairs with no subscription, quoted up front. Many customers then move to a plan to avoid future problems.
Is cheaper IT support worse?
Not always — but very low prices often leave out the work that prevents problems: monitoring, updates and backups. Compare what is included, not just the headline figure.
