A broken laptop screen is one of the most common — and most fixable — faults we see. Whether the glass is cracked after a drop, the picture has gone black but you can still hear Windows starting, or the display is flickering, dim or full of coloured lines, the screen itself can almost always be replaced without scrapping the whole laptop. Your files, your apps and your settings stay exactly where they are. If the screen flickers and then goes black, that pattern has its own likely causes — worth reading before you assume the worst.
This page is all about laptop displays specifically. We diagnose the real fault first — because a dark screen isn't always a broken panel — then quote clearly before we order any parts. We work on Windows laptops (we don't repair Apple MacBooks), and we cover Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the wider Dorset and New Forest area with free local collection and return.
// WHAT WE COVER
Laptop Screen Repair that just works
Cracked & smashed screens
Dropped, knocked or sat on? A spider-web crack, a shattered corner or a black blotch of spreading ink all mean the panel needs replacing — we fit a matched part and test it fully.
Black, dim or no picture
If the laptop powers on but the screen stays dark, it may be the backlight, the ribbon cable or the panel — not always a smash. We pinpoint which, so you're not paying for the wrong fix.
Flickering, lines & ghosting
Vertical or horizontal lines, flickering, half a screen working or a faint double image usually point to a failing panel or a loose display cable. We confirm the cause before quoting.
Hinges, bezels & cables
Screens often break because a hinge has cracked the casing or a cable has worn through. We fix the underlying cause too, so the new screen doesn't go the same way.
Right panel, properly matched
Laptop screens vary — resolution, touch vs non-touch, matte vs glossy, IPS viewing angles. We match the correct panel for your exact model so the replacement looks and behaves like the original.
No-fix-no-fee & warranted
If we can't fix it, you don't pay for the diagnosis. Every screen we fit is covered by a full 12-month warranty, with a clear written quote before any chargeable work.

// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
How much does a laptop screen repair cost?
It depends on your model — screens vary a lot in resolution, touch vs non-touch and panel type, so we don't quote a one-size-fits-all price. We diagnose the fault, identify the exact part your laptop needs and send a clear written quote before any chargeable work. It's no-fix-no-fee, so if we can't fix it you don't pay for the diagnosis. Call 01202 775566 or book online for a quote.
My laptop screen is black but I can hear it running — is it the screen?
Not always, and that's worth knowing before you pay for a new panel. If the laptop powers on but the display stays dark, it could be the backlight, the display ribbon cable, a graphics fault or the panel itself. A quick test — shining a torch at the screen, or connecting an external monitor — often tells us which. We diagnose the real cause first so you only pay for the fix you actually need.
Is it worth repairing the screen or should I replace the laptop?
If the rest of the laptop is healthy and the model isn't too old, a screen replacement is usually far cheaper than a new machine and keeps all your files and settings in place. If the laptop is ageing, slow or has other faults, replacing it (or a quality refurbished Dell) can make more sense. We'll give you honest, plain-English advice either way — see our refurbished Dell hardware page if a replacement looks the wiser choice.
Do you repair Apple MacBook screens?
No — we specialise in Windows laptops and don't repair Apple MacBooks, iPads or iPhones. If you have a Windows laptop from any of the major brands (Dell, HP, Lenovo, Asus, Acer and the rest), we'll be glad to help with the screen.
Will I lose my files if I get the screen replaced?
No — a screen replacement doesn't touch your hard drive, so your files, photos, apps and settings stay exactly where they are. That said, any laptop going in for repair is a good reminder to have a backup, just in case — if you'd like us to sort one out, ask and we'll set up proper backup before we start.
