The quickest way: in your web browser

Open your browser and go to windy.com/webcams. Windy gathers webcams from round the world: search for a place, or move the map and click a camera to see its view. Many play live video or a timelapse of the day; others show the latest picture the camera has sent.

Many harbours, piers, beaches, ski resorts and lifeboat stations also run cameras on their own websites: search for the place’s name and “webcam”, and check you’ve landed on the place’s own site.

/04 — TIPS

Getting the best from webcams

  • Black at night? Most cameras can’t see in the dark. Our app’s See it in daylight shows the camera’s daytime view instead.
  • On the TV: connect the PC to the TV with an HDMI lead, or cast the browser tab, for a big window on the coast.
  • Stuck on an old picture? The camera may be switched off for a while. Look at the time it last sent a picture.
  • Video stops and starts? That’s the internet connection. Move nearer the router, or our Wi-Fi signal test shows how good the signal is.

// GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

Are the webcams really live?

Many are: on Windy’s site they play live video or a timelapse. Others send a fresh picture every few minutes. Our app shows the latest picture, says when it was sent, and opens the live video on Windy with one click.

Is it free?

Yes. Watching costs nothing and needs no account. Live video uses some broadband; pictures use very little.

Why is a camera black?

It’s probably night there, or the camera is off for a while. In our app, See it in daylight shows its daytime view.

Can I watch them on my TV?

Yes: connect the PC to the TV with an HDMI lead, or cast the browser tab. We can set it up with you.

Can I keep my favourite cameras?

In a browser, bookmark them. In our app, keep them as favourites: the list stays on your PC and isn’t sent anywhere.

Where do your app’s webcams come from?

From Windy’s webcam list. Webcams provided by windy.com; camera owners can add theirs at windy.com/webcams/add.

Is your app safe to install?

Yes. 365 PC Manager is digitally signed by 365 Techies Ltd, a family IT firm in Bournemouth since 1995, and has no adverts. Webcam pictures are kept in memory while the window is open and never saved to your PC.

Want it on the big screen?

We can set it up with you over a remote connection, favourites and all, and help get the PC showing on your TV. Call 01202 775566 or text 07520 615332.
