Motorhome hire fleet battery monitoring means seeing the state of charge, solar input and charge status of every vehicle you run — live, on a single screen — instead of logging into each van one at a time. When each motorhome carries a Victron GX device, its data already flows to Victron’s VRM portal; we build a custom dashboard on top of that data through the official VRM API so your whole fleet reads at a glance.
One hosted screen shows every van as a tile: state of charge (SOC), solar yield, whether it’s charging or discharging, and a clear flag the moment a leisure battery drifts low. It runs full-screen on the office TV for the whole team to see, and reflows to the duty manager’s phone out of hours. No spreadsheet, no per-van login, no guesswork about which vehicle needs attention before it goes out on hire.
The one hard prerequisite is Victron kit in each van — a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, plus a way to get online. We’re honest about that up front, and we or your installer can spec it. Everything after that is done for you: we build it, host it and support it, so your turnaround team gets a screen, not a server to look after.

Seeing SOC across the fleet turns that into a five-minute job before handover. The turnaround team spots the low tile, puts the van on charge or swaps it, and the renter never knows there was a problem. Over a season that is the difference between chasing faults reactively and running a fleet you can trust.

VRM is excellent — here’s where a hire desk outgrows it
Let’s give Victron’s VRM portal its due: it is genuinely excellent, free, and rock-solid at what it does. Each van logs to VRM, you get history, alarms and remote diagnostics, and Victron even added a Fleet Dashboard that gives installers an at-a-glance view of alarms and key data across many sites, with a map for GPS-equipped vehicles. For plenty of operators that is genuinely enough — and if it is, we’ll happily tell you so rather than sell you a screen you don’t need.
Where a hire business tends to outgrow stock VRM is the last mile:
- The Fleet Dashboard only appears once your account is linked to 10 or more sites, and it is Victron’s layout, not yours — you can’t rebrand it, restyle it to your hire-desk workflow, or put it on a reception TV as your own screen.
- It lives behind a VRM login. That’s right for a manager triaging systems, but awkward for a front-desk TV or a duty phone that non-technical staff need to read at a glance.
- The stock main dashboard layout is fixed; only the Advanced tab is composable, and custom widgets are limited to roughly six parameters.
- VRM share links and iframe embeds are read-only and refresh at the logging interval (15 minutes by default) — not the live, branded screen you want on the wall.
To be clear: we are an independent service and are listed in Victron Energy’s Recommended Software Integrator Program — though not a Victron dealer, distributor or reseller. Victron and VRM are their trademarks. Our dashboards build on VRM through its official API — they never replace it.

Because we build on the official VRM API rather than dropping in an iframe, the screen isn’t locked to a stock share link’s refresh — which only updates at the logging interval — and we can lay it out for people who don’t know a MultiPlus from a mains lead. If you’d rather your data landed in Grafana, or embedded in your own booking portal, we do that too — the underlying approach is the same, only the destination changes.

/06 — WHAT EACH VAN NEEDS
The one prerequisite: a GX device in each vehicle
Here is the honest constraint. A dashboard can only show data that exists, and VRM only receives data from a Victron GX device. So each vehicle needs a GX device — commonly a Cerbo GX — wired to its Victron charger/inverter and battery monitor, plus a way to get online (a GX LTE/4G module with a SIM, or the vehicle’s own connectivity).
That gives you the SOC, solar and charge data per van that the fleet screen relies on. Non-Victron sensors can be brought in too, but only where they can be fed through the GX device — we’ll tell you plainly what will and won’t appear.
If your fleet is already Victron-equipped, we can usually start with nothing more than VRM access. If it isn’t, that’s a conversation before the dashboard, not a nasty surprise after it: we can specify the GX and connectivity for each van, or work alongside the installer who fits your conversions. Do our motorhomes need Victron kit already?
Yes — each van needs a Victron GX device (typically a Cerbo GX) feeding its charger, inverter and battery monitor, plus a way to get online. That’s what VRM logs and what our dashboard reads. If your fleet is already Victron-equipped, we often just need VRM access to begin. If not, we or your installer can specify the kit per vehicle first — we’ll always tell you honestly what’s needed before quoting.
How is this different from VRM’s own Fleet Dashboard?
VRM’s Fleet Dashboard is genuinely good, and free, but it needs 10 or more linked sites, it’s Victron’s fixed layout rather than yours, and it sits behind a VRM login. We build a screen in your branding, tuned to your hire-desk workflow, that runs on the office TV without anyone logging in. We’re independent — not affiliated with or endorsed by Victron — and we build on VRM’s official API, never replacing it.
Can the screen alert us before a battery goes flat?
Yes. VRM already supports alarm rules on parameters like state of charge, with email and app push notifications. On top of that, our dashboard flags low vans visually and can be tuned to your turnaround — for example, highlighting any booked vehicle under a set SOC the evening before collection — so the right van gets charged or swapped before the keys go out, not after the breakdown call.
Will it show where each van is?
If a van’s GX device has GPS, yes — VRM records location and we can show a map view alongside each vehicle’s power state, so you can see which vans are out, which are back, and their battery health together. Location depends on that GPS hardware being fitted; where a vehicle has no GPS module you still get full battery, solar and charge data, just without the map pin.
Can it go on our reception TV without a login?
That’s a big reason operators come to us. VRM’s own views need a login, which is awkward for a shared TV. Because we render through the official VRM API, we can run a full-screen, branded fleet view (see our TV kiosk display service) that sits on the reception or workshop TV around the clock, and reflows onto the duty manager’s phone out of hours — no one signing in, no stock widgets.

How live is the data really?
More responsive than a stock VRM share link, but let’s be precise. Share links and iframe embeds are read-only and refresh only at the logging interval — 15 minutes by default. Because we build on the official VRM API, our fleet screen isn’t tied to that fixed interval and can refresh more often, which matters when you’re checking a van minutes before handover. It’s monitoring rather than control, and not sub-second telemetry: the dashboard shows state and alerts, it doesn’t switch your kit on or off.
Do you work with our installer, and outside the UK?
Both. We deliver everything remotely and support Victron fleets worldwide, so your location isn’t a barrier. We’re glad to work alongside the installer who builds your conversions — they handle the vehicles, we handle the dashboard — or to specify the GX and connectivity ourselves. As a UK firm, we quote response times honestly against office hours, Monday to Friday, 9–5 UK time.
We also run boat hire — can you cover that?
Yes. A boat-charter or day-hire fleet running Victron systems monitors exactly like a motorhome fleet — one GX device per vessel logging to VRM, one branded screen for the marina office. The same is true for glamping bell tents, holiday lets and event power. If your assets carry Victron kit, we can put them on a single hosted dashboard, wherever they are.
Can the fleet screen live on our own booking website?
It can — something like fleet.yourhirecompany.co.uk, one click away from your booking pages, so staff bookmark your address rather than ours. Your VRM token stays in a single file on your server that visitors can never see in the page code, and the SFTP access you give us covers only that subdomain’s folder — the rest of your site stays yours alone. As the fleet grows, we simply add vans, screens and features in the same place.
