Outlook fix - New Outlook for Windows
New Outlook blank white screen
If the new Outlook opens to a blank white screen on Windows 11, it's almost always a graphics-rendering glitch or a corrupt local cache - not lost email. The quickest fixes are to update your graphics driver, clear Outlook's cache, and rule out an add-in. Here's the safe, accurate order to try, all confirmed for the new Outlook app. Rated 4.9 on Google.

Why it happens
Why the new Outlook shows a blank white screen
A blank or white screen in the new Outlook - the window opens but the inbox area stays empty and white - is nearly always a display problem, not a data problem. The new Outlook renders its interface much like a web page (it uses a built-in WebView engine), so it leans on your PC's graphics. When the graphics driver is out of date, or the graphics chip and Outlook fall out of step, the page simply doesn't paint and you get a white void.
The other common cause is a corrupt local cache, or occasionally a misbehaving add-in (an extra tool bolted onto Outlook). Because your mail, calendar and contacts are stored in the cloud with the new Outlook, clearing the cache or turning off an add-in is safe - nothing important is deleted, it just re-downloads.
Below we go from the gentlest fix to the fullest. Try them in order and stop as soon as your inbox comes back.

The fix
How to fix the blank screen - step by step
Work down this list in order. Most people are sorted by step 3.
- Update your graphics driver. This is the single most effective fix. Right-click the Start button, choose Device Manager, expand Display adapters, right-click your graphics adapter and choose Update driver > Search automatically for drivers. If you have an Intel, NVIDIA or AMD app installed, use it to get the very latest driver. Restart your PC afterwards.
- Clear the local cache. Close Outlook fully (open Task Manager, and on the Processes tab End task any leftover Outlook or olk.exe). Press Windows key + R, type
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Olkand press Enter, then delete the cache subfolder inside (and, if present, EBWebView). Outlook rebuilds these automatically and re-syncs your mail from the cloud - nothing is lost. - Rule out an add-in. The new Outlook does not have the old Ctrl-key "safe mode" - that only exists in classic Outlook. Instead, open the gear/Settings icon (top right), go to General > Add-ins (or Manage add-ins), and turn off any add-ins you've added recently, one at a time, testing after each. A quick cross-check: open your mailbox in a browser at outlook.com (or your Microsoft 365 webmail) - if it shows fine there, the fault is on the desktop app, not your account.
- If you have two graphics chips, steer Outlook onto the right one. Many laptops have both built-in (Intel/AMD) graphics and a separate NVIDIA/AMD card, and a blank screen can come from a bug on one of them. Go to Settings > System > Display > Graphics, find Outlook (new) in the list (or click Browse and add olk.exe), click it, choose Options, and try Power saving (this uses the built-in graphics). Reopen Outlook. On a PC with only one graphics chip this setting makes no difference, so skip it and rely on the driver update.
- Reset or reinstall the app. If it's still blank, go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Outlook (new) > Advanced options, click Repair, then Reset if needed. Still stuck? Uninstall from there and reinstall the new Outlook from the Microsoft Store. Sign back in and your account reloads from the cloud.

// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
Is a blank white screen in Outlook a sign my emails are gone?
No. A blank or white screen is a display and rendering problem, not a data-loss problem. In the new Outlook your mail, calendar and contacts are stored in the cloud, so even when you clear the cache or reset the app, nothing important is deleted - it simply re-downloads once the screen is working again. You can confirm your mail is safe by signing in through a browser at outlook.com.
There's no 'disable hardware graphics acceleration' option in the new Outlook - what do I do instead?
That old tick box (File > Options > Advanced in classic Outlook) doesn't exist in the new Outlook. The most effective replacement is to update your graphics driver via Device Manager and restart. If your laptop has two graphics chips (built-in plus a separate NVIDIA or AMD card), you can also set Outlook to Power saving graphics under Settings > System > Display > Graphics to steer it onto the built-in chip. On a single-graphics PC that setting has no effect, so the driver update is the fix.
How do I check for a bad add-in in the new Outlook - is there a safe mode?
The new Outlook doesn't have the classic Ctrl-key safe mode; that's a classic-Outlook-only feature. Instead, open the gear/Settings icon (top right) and go to General > Add-ins (or Manage add-ins), then turn off any recently added add-ins one at a time and test after each. If the blank screen clears with a particular add-in off, that one is the culprit.
What if the screen is blank only when I write a new email, not in the inbox?
That points to the same graphics-rendering cause. Update your graphics driver first, and on a two-graphics laptop try setting Outlook to power-saving graphics, then clear the cache. If a compose window stays white while the inbox is fine, it's still worth turning off recently added add-ins one at a time to see if one is interfering.
