Refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7000 Tier

Dell’s premium business desktop line — and the only OptiPlex tier where Core i9 is real. Ex-fleet 7080, 7090, 7000 and 7010 machines with 10–24-core CPU options that still outrun many brand-new budget desktops, each one professionally set up by 365 Techies with a brand-new 1TB Samsung 990 PRO fitted. From £590.

// TOP · TIER

The top of the OptiPlex range — and who it’s actually for

The 7000 tier is where Dell put the good stuff: the only OptiPlex line ever offered with Core i9 and 125W K-series processors, VR-class graphics support in the Tower, vPro Enterprise management throughout, and — from 2022 — DDR5 memory and PCIe Gen4 NVMe storage.

Bought second-hand and properly refurbished, that makes it the strongest value in the whole OptiPlex range. A well-specced ex-fleet 7000-tier machine gives you genuine workstation-adjacent performance for a fraction of new-desktop money — especially now, with new PC prices climbing on the back of the memory shortage.

Who buys this tier from us:

  • Power users — heavy multitaskers, photo and video editors, developers running virtual machines
  • Business fleets — firms standardising on one dependable platform with vPro remote management
  • Light workstation duty — CAD and creative work on a Tower with a discrete graphics card, without Precision-workstation prices

If you just need email, browsing and Office, our 3000 tier will do it for less. This page is for people who make a computer work for a living.

// THE · LINE-UP

Four generations, one family — and a naming trap to dodge

The tier runs across four model years, each in Tower, Small Form Factor (SFF) and Micro versions:

  • OptiPlex 7080 (2020) — Intel 10th gen. Offered with i9 and, in the Tower, 125W K-series options. Around £590 from us (guide — stock varies).
  • OptiPlex 7090 (2021) — a transitional model sold with both 10th and 11th gen CPUs in the same chassis. The Tower gained a Gen4 x16 slot (active with 11th-gen chips). £610.
  • OptiPlex 7000 (2022) — the big architecture jump: 12th-gen hybrid cores, DDR5 on the Tower, Gen4 NVMe throughout. Around £700 (guide).
  • OptiPlex 7010 (2023) — Intel 13th gen, split into base and Plus variants. £720.

Careful with the 7010: Dell reused that name from a 2012 model. The old ones sell for under £50 and litter the listings sites — we verify every unit by service tag and CPU generation, so a 7010 from us is always the 2023 machine.

All our prices are for a Core i5 with 16GB RAM, a new 1TB Samsung 990 PRO and full professional setup included.

i5 and i7 throughout — and the only tier where i9 is real

We only stock Core i5 and above, and in this tier the volume ex-fleet stock is exactly that: i5-10500 through to the excellent 14-core i5-13500. The realistic “fast” configurations are i7 — i7-10700, 11700, 12700 and 13700 — which typically carry a modest premium over i5.

Then there’s Core i9, and here the details matter. Verified from Dell’s own documentation:

  • 7080 and 7090: the 10-core i9-10900 was offered in the Tower, SFF and Micro (the Micro needs its 180W power adapter). The 125W i9-10900K and i9-11900K were Tower-only.
  • 7090 caveat: its i9-11900 has 8 cores — fewer than the older i9-10900’s 10 — so it’s not an upgrade for multi-threaded work. We’ll say so.
  • OptiPlex 7000 (2022): the 16-core i9-12900 came in all three form factors; the 12900K was Tower-only.
  • 7010 (2023): the 24-core i9-13900 exists only in Plus variants; base Towers and SFFs top out at the still-excellent 14-core i5-13600.

One honest warning: i9 and K-series units are genuinely scarce second-hand. We never publish speculative i9 prices — when one comes in, it’s priced on inspection. Call and we’ll tell you what’s actually on the bench.

// SHAPES · SIZES

Micro, SFF or Tower — pick the box that fits the job

Micro (1 litre, VESA-mountable): a full desktop that hides behind the monitor — and in this tier it packs real power, with 65W i7 and i9 options up to 16 cores in the 2022 model. Two things we always get right: 65W-CPU Micros must ship with the 180W adapter (a 90W one will throttle or refuse to boot), and the 2022/Plus Micros have no 2.5-inch bay — storage is M.2 only.

SFF: the office sweet spot. A 3.5-inch bay for cheap bulk storage plus a low-profile x16 slot (Gen4 on 11th-gen 7090 configs, the 2022 model and 7010 Plus; Gen3 on the rest) for a modest graphics card — think low-profile RTX 3050 or RTX A2000 class. All SFFs top out at 65W CPUs.

Tower: the only choice for K-series chips and full-height graphics — Dell factory-fitted cards up to RTX 2070 Super (7080) and RTX 3070 (7090). Four drive bays and proper PCIe slots make it a genuine “workstation-lite” for CAD, video and development. One check we always do: many ex-fleet Towers carry the basic 260W supply rather than the 500W Platinum unit, so we confirm the PSU before promising any GPU upgrade.

For the 2023 generation, performance buyers should look at Plus variants only — base 7010s are deliberately cost-reduced.

// RAM · STORAGE

Memory, M.2 slots and the new 990 PRO in every machine

Memory: 7080/7090 Towers and SFFs have four DIMM slots taking DDR4 up to 128GB; their Micros take two SODIMMs to 64GB. The 2022 OptiPlex 7000 splits by form factor — DDR5 Tower, DDR4-3200 SFF, and a Micro that exists in both DDR4 and DDR5 versions (we check the service tag before quoting upgrades). The 2023 base 7010 is DDR4 with two slots to 64GB; the Plus models run DDR5, up to 128GB in Tower and SFF Plus. Typical ex-fleet units arrive with a single stick — ours ship with 16GB as standard.

Storage: every machine gets a brand-new 1TB Samsung 990 PRO — a drive retailing at £229.99 at mainstream UK retailers as of July 2026, included in our price. It runs at full Gen4 speed in the 2022 OptiPlex 7000 (all form factors), the 7010 Plus models and 11th-gen 7090 configs; in the 7080 and base 7010 it runs happily at Gen3 (~3.5GB/s) — still seriously quick.

Room to grow is a real strength here: 7080/7090 Towers and SFFs carry two M.2 slots plus SATA bays (four Tower, three SFF); the 2022 Tower and SFF have three M.2 slots; the 7010 Tower Plus has three M.2 plus four SATA. Boot drive plus bulk SSD, no cables.

// STRAIGHT ANSWER

Why do computers cost more than last year?

In short: the memory chips inside every computer have shot up in price. AI data centres are buying storage and memory at a scale the industry has never seen, and that demand has pushed up the price of the NAND flash chips inside every SSD — for everyone, on every brand, new and refurbished alike.

We fit a brand-new 1TB Samsung 990 PRO in every machine we sell rather than a tired old drive — and that one part now costs around £230 at UK retailers. We’d rather explain the price honestly than quietly fit a cheaper, slower drive.

The upside: a refurbished business-grade Dell is the best answer to rising prices — the chassis, screen and board are already made, so your money goes on the parts that matter. The full story is on our why computer prices have gone up page.

Every machine set up properly — then choose your cover

Every computer is professionally set up by 365 Techies with Windows 11 Home or Pro (your choice) and your data moved across — that’s included. Then pick how looked-after you want to be:

Our honest advice: the support plan is the best value of the three — and not because we sell it. The guarantee alone is five times longer, problems get caught at the six-weekly service before they cost you a morning, your backups are actually checked rather than assumed, and one avoided emergency pays for months of cover. Plans are rolling monthly with no lock-in — see home plans and business plans, or add Microsoft 365 to a home plan at £4.85 per user, per month.

Every model in detail

Every machine comes with 16GB fitted. Want 32GB? Guide upgrade: +£176 on laptops and Micro desktops, +£210 on SFF/Tower desktops (2×16GB, fitted). One honest heads-up: memory prices are moving unusually fast right now (the same AI data-centre demand behind rising computer prices), so we confirm RAM upgrade pricing at quote time. Note the Latitude 7000 series has soldered memory — it can’t be upgraded later, so pick the size you’ll ever need up front.

// GOOD QUESTIONS

Frequently asked

Can I really get a Core i9 OptiPlex?

Yes — this is the only OptiPlex tier where i9 genuinely exists. The 7080 and 7090 offered the 10-core i9-10900 in Tower, SFF and Micro (the Micro needs its 180W adapter); the 2022 OptiPlex 7000 offered the 16-core i9-12900 in all three form factors; the 2023 7010 offers the 24-core i9-13900 in Plus variants only. They’re genuinely scarce second-hand, so we price them on inspection rather than publishing a figure — call and ask what we currently have.

Is the 2023 OptiPlex 7010 the same as the old OptiPlex 7010?

No — and this catches people out. Dell reused the 7010 name from a 2012 model, and those old machines sell for under £50 on auction sites. We verify every unit by service tag and CPU generation, so a 7010 from us is always the 2023 Intel 13th-gen machine. If you see a suspiciously cheap 7010 elsewhere, check its processor before you buy.

Which form factor should I choose?

Micro if desk space matters — it’s a 1-litre box that mounts behind the monitor yet still takes serious CPUs in this tier. SFF is the office all-rounder, with a bay for cheap bulk storage and room for a low-profile graphics card. Tower is the only choice for K-series processors and full-height graphics cards, so pick it for CAD, video editing or anything GPU-heavy. Tell us what you do and we’ll recommend one honestly.

Can I add more memory later?

Usually, yes — and generously. 7080/7090 Towers and SFFs take up to 128GB of DDR4 across four slots; the 2022 Tower and 7010 Plus models take up to 128GB of DDR5. The exceptions are the Micros (two SODIMM slots, 64GB max) and the base 2023 7010 (two slots, 64GB max). Memory type varies within some generations, so we always confirm your exact unit’s spec before quoting an upgrade.

Does the Samsung 990 PRO run at full speed in every model?

It fits every model in the tier, and runs at full PCIe Gen4 speed in the 2022 OptiPlex 7000, the 7010 Plus models and 11th-gen 7090 configurations. In the 7080 and base 7010 it runs at Gen3 speed — around 3.5GB/s, which is still far quicker than the drives these machines shipped with. Either way you get the same brand-new drive with headroom for a future machine.

What does the £49 Setup Pack add on top of the standard setup?

Every machine already includes professional setup, Windows 11 Home or Pro and your data moved across. The £49 Setup Pack adds a tailored home or business configuration, 30 days of remote support, and a full service after your first 30 days. The comparison table further up the page shows exactly how the pack and our monthly support plans stack up.

Do you deliver, or can I collect?

Both. We deliver UK-wide, or we’ll bring it to you locally and set it up, Monday to Friday 9–5. There’s no call-out fee if you’d like us to set the machine up at your home or business locally. Call 01202 775566 or text 07520 615332 to arrange either.

What guarantee comes with a refurbished 7000-tier desktop?

A 12-month return-to-base guarantee as standard on every machine. If you’re on a 365 support plan (home £18.25/month per computer, business from £24.38/month), that becomes a 5-year guarantee for as long as you stay on the plan. Every unit is securely wiped and fully tested before sale, whatever its cosmetic grade.
