A slow computer is the single most common problem we’re called about — and the most misunderstood. “It’s old, I’ll have to buy a new one” is the usual verdict, but it’s rarely true. In the vast majority of cases a sluggish Windows laptop or desktop is slow for one of a handful of fixable reasons, and putting it right costs a fraction of a replacement.
This page is about one thing: getting your speed back. We’ll explain why computers slow down, how we tell a five-minute fix from a worn-out part, and what we actually do to make yours quick again. It’s a one-off repair with no subscription needed — though if you’d rather it never slowed down in the first place, our monthly plans keep it tuned all year. We work on Windows PCs and laptops and Android tablets and phones (we don’t cover Apple Mac, iPhone or iPad).
// WHAT WE COVER
Slow Computer Repair that just works
Slow to start up
If your machine takes minutes to reach the desktop, it’s usually too many startup programs, a tired hard drive or a Windows update that stalled. All fixable, often remotely.
Malware slowing it down
Hidden malware, browser hijackers and dodgy ‘cleaner’ tools quietly eat your speed. We find and remove them and set up real protection so it stays gone.
Not enough memory (RAM)
Too little RAM means Windows shuffles work to disk and everything crawls. A memory upgrade is one of the cheapest, most dramatic speed boosts there is.
Old mechanical hard drive
A spinning hard drive is the number-one cause of slowness. Swapping it for an SSD typically makes an old laptop feel brand new — your files and Windows come across intact.
Overheating & dust
A clogged, dusty fan makes Windows deliberately slow the processor to stay cool. A proper clean-out and fresh thermal paste can transform performance — and stop sudden shutdowns.
Bloated, cluttered Windows
Years of trial software, toolbars and background apps drag any PC down. We strip the clutter, tidy Windows and leave it running lean — not loaded with junk.

// GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
Why is my computer suddenly so slow?
A sudden slowdown usually points to one of a few things: a Windows update that stalled, malware that has crept in, a hard drive starting to fail, or a fan clogged with dust making Windows throttle the processor to stay cool. We diagnose which it is — often remotely the same day — rather than guessing, then quote clearly before any chargeable work.
Is it worth repairing a slow computer or should I just buy a new one?
Most slow computers are well worth saving. An SSD and a little more memory will transform a machine that’s five, six, even eight years old for a fraction of replacement cost. We’ll always be honest, though — if yours genuinely isn’t worth the spend we’ll tell you, and can point you to a refurbished Dell instead. See our Dell laptops & desktops.
Will speeding it up wipe my files and programs?
No. When we fit an SSD we clone your existing Windows, files and programs across so everything is exactly where you left it — just much faster. We always back up before we start, so your photos, documents and emails are safe whatever we do.
Can you fix a slow computer remotely?
Often, yes. Startup bloat, malware, a stalled update and general clutter can usually be sorted over a secure remote session the same day — no need to leave home. If it turns out to need a new SSD or memory, that’s a quick hands-on visit or collection across Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset. See our remote support.
Do I have to take out a monthly plan?
Not at all — this is a one-off repair with no subscription. That said, many customers move onto a monthly plan afterwards because regular maintenance stops the slowness creeping back. Plans start at £18.25/month per computer; the choice is entirely yours.
