/01 — THE SHORT ANSWER
The short answer: yes, two ways
You can put Victron VRM on a TV or kiosk two ways: run a browser in full-screen kiosk mode against VRM’s own pages, or point the screen at a purpose-built dashboard fed by the official VRM API. The free DIY route costs nothing but the hardware and works well; the catches are keeping a login session alive, living with VRM’s fixed layout, and — if you use a share link to dodge the login — a refresh lag.
Pick the DIY route when it’s an internal screen, one site, and nobody minds VRM’s branding and menus on show. Pick a built dashboard when the screen has to earn its place — a showroom, a reception, a marina office — full-bleed, on-brand, always on and, if you want, showing several sites at once. The rest of this page covers both, honestly, and gives you the DIY steps so you can weigh it up for yourself.
/02 — WHERE A LIVE SCREEN PAYS OFF
Where a wall of live power data earns its keep
A screen showing real, moving numbers does something a brochure can’t: it proves the kit works. The places it pulls its weight:
- Installer showrooms. A wall showing your own reference system — solar coming in, batteries filling, loads running — sells Victron better than any spec sheet. Customers watch the numbers move and get it.
- Site reception and lobbies. Buildings chasing a green story love a live energy board: today’s solar yield, battery state, grid draw. It quietly tells every visitor the place is doing the right thing.
- Fleet and operations offices. A back-office screen with your sites or vehicles at a glance means someone spots a flat battery or a dropped inverter before the phone rings.
- Marina and holiday-park offices. One screen for the pontoon power, the amenity block or a run of hire units keeps staff on top of it without logging into anything.
All of these want the same three things: full-screen, legible from across the room, and live enough to be believed. That’s exactly where the stock pages start to strain.
/03 — THE FREE DIY ROUTE
The free DIY kiosk: a Pi, a browser, VRM’s own pages
Credit where it’s due: you can do this yourself for the price of a small computer, and plenty of installers have. The recipe is an always-on mini device behind the TV running a browser locked into kiosk mode, pointed at your VRM Dashboard.
- A Raspberry Pi (4 or 5) or a cheap mini-PC wired to the TV over HDMI, on power and network.
- Chromium in kiosk mode — launched at boot with flags such as --kiosk --noerrdialogs --disable-infobars --disable-session-crashed-bubble so there’s no browser chrome and no “restore session” nag.
- A VRM login in that browser profile, with the Dashboard open for the site you want on screen — that’s the view that updates in real time.
One thing worth knowing: while you’re logged in with the main Dashboard actually open, VRM streams updates straight to your browser every couple of seconds when the installation is online. (The Advanced tab is different: its charts plot logged history at the logging interval, not that live stream, so for a live wall you want the Dashboard.) So a logged-in Dashboard kiosk genuinely is live — it’s the login and the layout that bite, not the freshness. Our step-by-step for the full DIY build is set out below; the honest limits come next.
/04 — WHERE THE DIY KIOSK BITES
The honest limits of the DIY kiosk
None of these are dealbreakers for an internal screen. They matter the moment the screen faces a customer.
- Sessions drop. VRM logins and browser updates will eventually kick you back to a login screen. On an unattended wall that means someone has to notice and log back in — or you script a nightly reboot and hope.
- The layout is fixed. VRM’s main dashboard is a set layout; only the Advanced tab is composable, and even there custom widgets are capped at roughly six parameters. You show what VRM shows, in VRM’s order.
- It isn’t brandable. The stock pages carry VRM’s look, menus and login. The long-promised white-label “Dealer ID” was confirmed by Victron staff as never shipped, so there’s no official way to put your name on it.
- Share links lag. The tempting way to skip the login — a VRM share link or iframe embed — is read-only and only refreshes at the logging interval (15 minutes by default). A “live” wall a quarter-hour behind undercuts the whole point.
- No single multi-site screen. VRM has no one-screen live view across sites; the installer list is a table, and it isn’t brandable either.
So the DIY kiosk is either live-but-logged-in-and-plain, or branded-nowhere-and-lagging. For an internal board that’s fine. For a screen that sells, it’s a compromise.

What a kiosk dashboard costs
Pricing is quote-based — a wall for one site is a different job to a branded multi-site operations screen, so we’d rather scope it than quote a number that’s wrong. What moves the price:
- How many sites and how many data points per site on the screen.
- How custom the design is — a clean branded layout versus bespoke visuals, layouts or a rotating set of views.
- Whether you need the hardware sorted too — just a URL for your own Pi or smart display, or a supplied, configured kiosk device.
- Hosting and support — we host and keep it running; the ongoing side depends on scale.
Everything is built on your existing VRM data via the official API, so there’s no new logging kit to buy on the Victron side — you need a working GX device already reporting to VRM. Frequently asked
Do I need a computer, or can a smart TV show VRM on its own?
A smart TV’s built-in browser is usually too limited and flaky to hold a VRM session on a permanent kiosk. The reliable way is a small always-on device — a Raspberry Pi or mini-PC — tucked behind the screen running a browser in kiosk mode, with the TV simply acting as the display over HDMI. That’s true whether you go the DIY route or run a dashboard we host.
Will a VRM share link update live on a wall display?
No. VRM share links and iframe embeds are read-only and refresh only at the logging interval — 15 minutes by default — so a wall using one is always up to a quarter of an hour behind. A logged-in VRM Dashboard is near-live (it streams every couple of seconds), but then you’re showing VRM’s login, menus and fixed layout. Our hosted dashboard sidesteps both: it’s on-brand and login-free, and it refreshes itself from the VRM API.
Can I hide the VRM branding and put my own on the screen?
Not on the stock pages. VRM’s layout is fixed, and the white-label “Dealer ID” feature that would have allowed it was confirmed by Victron staff on their community forum as never shipped. The only route to a fully branded, full-screen kiosk is a dashboard built on the VRM API — which is exactly what we build and host for you.
Can one screen show several Victron sites at once?
Not in stock VRM — it has no single live multi-site view; the installer list is a table, needs ten or more sites for some features, and isn’t brandable. If you want a wall showing several installations side by side, that has to be a custom dashboard built on the API. We can lay out as many sites as the screen sensibly holds.
What do you need from us to build a kiosk dashboard?
Three things: appropriate VRM access (an installer link or a shared login for the sites concerned), a working Victron GX device already logging to VRM, and either a screen with an always-on device or just somewhere to open the URL. The Victron kit is a genuine prerequisite — we build on your existing VRM data via the official API, we don’t replace your hardware.
Can the screen show non-Victron data too, like a tank or a meter?
It can, but only where that data reaches VRM through the GX device — the GX is the single doorway for anything into VRM, Victron or not. If a sensor or third-party source is wired into your Cerbo or other Venus OS device, we can pull it onto the kiosk via the API alongside the Victron figures. If it never reaches the GX, VRM never sees it, so neither can the screen.
How live is a dashboard you build, really?
Honestly? As fresh as the data VRM holds for your system. We poll the official VRM API on a short interval and the screen updates itself — no login, and none of the read-only staleness of a static embed. The genuine ceiling is set by Victron, not by us: your GX device reports to VRM at its own cadence (the logging interval, as fine as one minute), and nothing fed by the API can be fresher than the data VRM actually holds. The one view that beats that is VRM’s own logged-in Dashboard, which live-streams every couple of seconds while someone actively watches it — but that means a login to babysit and VRM’s layout on show. For an unattended wall, a self-refreshing API dashboard reads as live and needs nobody signing in.

Can the wall-screen page run from our own web address?
Yes — we can put the kiosk page on a subdomain such as display.yourcompany.co.uk, so the TV in your showroom shows your web address and any member of staff can open it from any browser, anywhere. Your VRM token sits server-side in a single file on your hosting, never in the page itself, and the only access we need is SFTP limited to that one folder. If you later want a second screen, a different layout or extra sites on rotation, we add them in the same place.
