A beautiful website nobody finds is a brochure in a drawer
In a study of four million Google search results, fewer than 1 in 150 searchers clicked anything on page two. Studies consistently show the top three results take between half and two-thirds of all clicks. If your site isn’t findable, it may as well not exist — however lovely it looks.
Google confirms that page experience signals like Core Web Vitals are used by its ranking systems. To be honest with you (as always): speed alone won’t put you at #1 — Google says relevance comes first. But where competing local sites are otherwise similar, great page experience contributes — and that’s the edge we build in from day one.
And the field is genuinely weak: Google’s own real-user data (the Core Web Vitals Technology Report) shows fewer than half of WordPress sites — the platform much of the web is built on — pass Core Web Vitals, and a large share of Wix and Squarespace sites fail too. How much does a website cost?
Ours is £2,450 fixed for a hand-built site of up to 25 pages, half up front and half when it goes live. For calibration: independent UK guides put a typical agency-built small-business site at roughly £2,500–£10,000 before hosting. Why do some websites cost £50,000 or even more?
Because past a certain size a website is really software plus a publishing operation. At published UK rates, professionally written pages start around £100 each, custom checkers and calculators are £30,000+ software projects, and maintenance adds 15–25% a year on top.
