Computers slow down for all sorts of reasons, and it is rarely a sign you need a new one. Most slowdowns are fixable.
The usual suspects
Too many programs starting up, a full hard drive, pending updates, a tired hard disk, or background malware are the most common culprits. A traditional hard drive is often the biggest bottleneck — upgrading to an SSD can make an old laptop feel new.
What you can try first
Restart properly, install pending updates, uninstall programs you no longer use, and run a full antivirus scan. If it is still sluggish, it is worth having it checked.
Key points
- Reduce startup programs and free up disk space
- Install pending Windows and app updates
- An SSD upgrade transforms older machines
- Rule out viruses with a full scan
